The Sounds & Music Of Offender 2 (Production Notes)

I’m happy to say that I’ve finished all the artwork, animation, and coding for Offender 2, and I’ve been busily working on the final stage of development: music (and sounds). It’s been a whirlwind of creativity, and the direction the music has gone is both spooky and humorous. I’m happy with the quality, and it has added a lot to the game. Playing the finished portions of it is really something, to say the least. I love how it takes itself serious, and is so ridiculous at the same time. You’re not sure if you want to laugh, or slip...

Nathalie Lawhead – A Pioneer in Interactive Literature (By Larry Lawhead)

Following is a critique written by Larry Lawhead about BlueSuburbia. I had been asking for critiques of my work (to use for press material, etc). The outcome was a summary very true to the project’s vision. In short: He nailed it! :) Nathalie Lawhead – A Pioneer in Interactive Literature By Larry Lawhead I recently watched an amazing demonstration of an interactive book given in April 2011 by Mike Matas of Push Pop Press. While watching this demo, I was reminded of an unusual book of interactive poetry I encountered a full eleven years earlier. Nathalie Lawhead’s Blue Suburbia has...

Another “E-P-I-C!!!!!!” Thank You (Fans, Players, Editors, And Curators)

Today I checked my meatspace mail and had a pleasant surprise waiting for me. Issue #201 of Imagine Shop’s Web Designer Magazine arrived (where Tetrageddon Arcade is making an appearance in the Design Diary). I’m thrilled (and love pictures) so here are some shots of this beautiful publication: “Graphics get in the way of usability… very true in games. Development is the most important part of the production cycle. Tetrageddon needed to be fun before making it pretty.” Sometimes, when you’re truly down, and start questioning why you do what you do… and if it’s worth doing at all, life...

Making an “E-P-I-C!!!!!!” comeback… (Thanks everyone!)

I started working on Tetrageddon Arcade this year, after a pretty rough last year, and I have to say that I’m incredibly encouraged with how it’s been received. It’s a true blessing, so thank you everyone for your support! The site has already gotten an amazing amount of publicity. I’d like to extend a warm thank-you to everyone who has helped make this possible, and especially the players. I would not be able to work on this again if it weren’t for you. Because of this I’m confident in my choice to focus on my own personal creative work, and...

Tetrageddon: Desktop Games (PC)

Recently Tetrageddon has been open sourcing games (all assets are there, and free to use under a creative commons share-alike license) via a “view source” option. The aim is to encourage collaborative adaptations, sharing of games, and for the project to become a resource (in the long run). Most of the games have also been developed for playing on the Nintendo Wii (Wii Browser – such as Haxed By Megahurtz, Offender, and They Came From My Inbox). Which brings me to more recent developments! …I am pleased to announce that some games are now available as a standalone desktop PC...

Hats Off (The First and Last Line of Inspiration)

This deserves it’s own post: Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror I was looking for inspiration… Something to listen too, and I remembered this. It was, and still is, my all time favorite version of Dracula. Possibly just my favorite horror movie in general. Not so much for the vampires, or the scares, but because of the music. I was obsessed with how it sounded, simply because I thought it was just so beautiful and haunting. Otherworldly almost. I sometimes turn to it for inspiration. It’s been a large defining force in my work. Like in this poem (Angel)… That movie’s...

Gay, Gypsy And Jew Music Video

The music video for the song Gay, Gypsy And Jew is live. The song is the creative genius of the cross-cultural mash up known as Rotfront (Emigrantski Raggamuffin Kollektiv). Produced by the equally brilliant cross-cultural mash up record label Essay Recordings – home of Gypsies, Jews, and some of that global ethnic beat. Other artists behind it are: RotFront featuring András Kéri / MC Columbo (Irie Maffia, Brains), Gipsy.cz, Gaya Arutyunyan (Deti Picasso, Vattican Punk Ballet), Mickael Franci (Mala Vita), Annette Ezekiel Kogan (Golem), Rude (La Maquina), Perkalaba, Daniel Kahn, DJ Ipek, Wladimir Kaminer. In a world that’s growing increasingly...

Placebo…

When we where young we where chronically hyperactive, especially my sister. This made normal babysitters, who didn’t meet the qualifications of a gunnery sergeant, or navy seal, an impossibility. Even if presented with the above, we lovingly drove anyone out of their minds. My sister was having a critical energy surplus, and my mom (who was in one of her experimental moods) resorted to placebo. Mom handed her a pill. My sister asked her what that was, mom told her it was lecithin, and it would make her very tired. My sister took it, waited for a good minute eye...
