It seems like I’ve been working on this forever, and this is one of the largest, most complex projects I’ve done…
I created this game all on my own… saying it almost feels like an understatement. I want to grab you by your shirt collar, violently shake you, and say “No! You just don’t understand!”
The endeavor involved creating the engine (coding, debugging), creating the artwork, animating the artwork, then producing music, sound, and voice acting for it (all my voice as well).

I’m particularly proud of the music. I composed it all by myself! I wanted something unique that didn’t sound “cartoony”, but had depth to it. It turned out very beautiful, adding a lot of character to the cartoon bunnies. It’s almost haunting, and I absolutely love that every corner of the game has its own custom soundtrack/musical undertone. I also made a theme for it. I like it. It’s cute.
The animation and artwork style is very detailed. I rarely ever voluntarily make frame by frame animation because it’s SO tedious! …Every frame is something that you have to draw again, and draw again, and repeat for 100+ frames. It adds up. Nevertheless, it is worth it, and it’s turned into a bit of an interactive cartoon.

Offender 2 has some VERY complex state saving, and state handling powering it. If you leave in the middle of the game, you can come back to the last level you where playing on.
You can clear it and start a new game, it sees if you’re at the ending, it comments here and there… it took quite a bit of testing, but the end result is something that you can come back to without losing your progress.

The Hall Of Maim mini-game (Top 10 / Credits platformer game), where rolls are reversed and you rescue abducted bunnies, also adds to the main game’s state. For every bunny you rescue you get a retry in the main game. This can be valuable because the later levels are very hard and you die a lot. If you rescue all Hall Of Maim bunnies you get infinite retries.

I’ve made the game a bit of a character itself. It comments on your actions, and little easter eggs pop up here or there giving you the impression that the game “is watching you”. The dying, and retry system is a great example of it. If you die too often the game changes your name to an insult. The only way to get your name back is by admitting that you suck, but in doing so you lose your points… It’s all in good humor, because the points just really add up in all the chaos.
Difficulty level increases as you progress through the days, with Day 8 being the hardest.
Another cute thing is that you can actually blow up the tutorial area, and the game “remembers that” as well… but I don’t want to spoil everything. :)

It was a lot of work!

I wanted to hold off on releasing Offender 2 until I made the website, and trailer. First impressions are everything!
I finished the website over the weekend, but figured I can release the trailer later… The website is pretty enough.
Besides, I want to make the trailer a bit more special! :)

The mobile release (for iPhone) is also on its way. I need to port the controls to work with touchscreens.
