A butterfly…
\nShe flies, caressing the space between
\nSunshine, and air, the world unseen.
\nA stronger spirit is hers, as
\nWings beating, she caries herself free,
\nFrom the cocoon.<\/p>\n

A butterfly…
\nOnce captive, now beyond free.
\nLiberty, greater than that bestowed on any living being,
\nIt was not<\/em> a birth right,
\nIt’s hard earned, the air she’s breathing…
\nOnce she writhed, and twisted.
\nHers was a fight, she suffered to beg a million wishes.
\nChange hurts when it’s to surpass circumstance,
\nAnd escape that prison
\nOf one’s own devising.<\/p>\n

A butterfly…
\nToiling at chance, once she hung from a branch…
\nOnce a pathetic thing dangling, at which others could point and laugh,
\nA brittle figure, wings wrinkled, and body broken.
\nIt’s hard to struggle into the open
\nJust to find a world cold, wings useless, and unable to fly.
\n“Why did I escape? Why did I fight?” is her cry.
\n“Why did I leave? It would have been easier never to have tried!”
\nHope is the most dreadful of trials…
\n“All for naught! Is it here that I’m simply to die!?”
\n“I’m a failure amongst all butterflies!”<\/p>\n

But a butterfly…
\nShe seems still for a final moment,
\nClinging dearly to a leaf.
\nThe wind blows wisely to her relief
\nDrying her hard earned perfection,
\nSoothing her, beauty set in stone,
\nDecisions shaped, and fought through and through,
\nShe is finally made, and made new, all on her own.
\nWith a flutter she drifts away.<\/p>\n

A butterfly!
\nShe’s outgrown her own form,
\nA stronger spirit is hers,
\nGreater than then or now.
\nShe carries herself free,
\nShe glides like heartbeat,
\nShe’s come far just to be seen!
