Alexis (totali lik part 2!) <3

Alexis Synthia Sornberg’s shamelessly satirical approach to depicting popular culture, and the place that women have in it, can be best described as an delightfully outrageous cross-breed between Naïve art and a pizza dream from the master mind of Andy Warhol.
Her outrageous use of colors, mixed with iconic imagery of celebrities, and the heroes of today’s youth, can do nothing less but make one wonder; what has our world-of-today come to when the greatest and only aspiration a young woman has is to simply hang off the shoulder of her favorite movie star. What has modern society come to when the young women of today wish for nothing more but to linger in the background. The innocent childishness of these pieces is brought to light through the pen-and-paper style drawing, accented by bright colors, hot pinks, and randomly placed hearts. Is it truly so that the only place a woman has and cares to be is merely a lovely accessory in a successful man’s life? When have women surrendered their ambitions, and potential to such a fate, and why so willingly? These are truly grim issues brought to light in a humorous and guilelessly childlike manner. To artists as naturally unique and shameless as Alexis, we can only give our respect, and look to to pose the questions we dare not ask. You go girl.

My comment #1: It is a sad truth, but; It’s not art that matters, it is what you write about art that makes art art. It’s like con-artists. If you want to be a successful artist you also have to be a good con-artist. The quality of your work matters little in contrast to what you say about your work. It’s hype.

My comment #2: The best way to solve a social issue is to make fun of it.
